Setting up the NDI Wireless Camera & Wireless Router for a Wireless Video Feed

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 2182 views

Overview of what this enables

The NDI Camera kit enables you to send a low‑latency wireless video feed from a Mevo NDI camera directly to a laptop. The laptop can then output this feed to a projector, TV, or other display, and the video can be shown or manipulated via software such as Isadora or QLab (recommended).

Equipment Required

  • 1 x Mevo NDI Camera & Wireless Router
    • (includes the Mevo NDI camera and dedicated wireless router)
  • 1 x AV Laptop
    • AV laptops already include all required software and easy to connect ports without additional adapters.

Setup Instructions

The order that the devices are turned on or connected is very important.

1. Power on the wireless router

  1. Plug in the router.
  2. Turn it on using the power button on the rear.
  3. The LED indicators should flash, then stabilise to show it is powered.

Important:
Allow a few minutes for the router to fully initialise before connecting.

2. Connect the laptop to the router

  1. On the laptop, open the Wi‑Fi menu.
  2. Connect to the router’s wireless network.
    • The network name (SSID) is printed on the top of the router (usually AV_NDI_5G).
    • The password is also printed on the top of the router.

Notes:

  • If a message appears saying “The network cable is unplugged”, you can close this.
  • The router does not provide internet access.
    • If you need internet (e.g., to download files), do this before connecting to the NDI router.

3. Power on the Mevo NDI Camera

  1. Turn on the camera using the button on the rear.
  2. The camera will beep, and the rear LEDs will flash before showing a constant battery indicator.
  3. A green light should appear on the front when the camera is ready.
    • This will turn red once connected to the network/stream.

Accessing the NDI Feed in QLab

1. Connect the laptop to the projector or display

We recommend doing this before opening QLab to avoid routing issues and to ensure displays are detected correctly.

2. Open QLab and enable a licence

QLab requires a valid video licence to view an NDI feed.
You can use the fully featured 60‑minute demo:

  • Click Licences (bottom right)
  • Click Start a Demo to create a demo workspace

3. Configure the NDI input in QLab

  1. Click the Settings (cog) icon in the bottom right of QLab.
  2. Select Video from the left-hand panel.
  3. Open the Video Inputs tab at the top.
  4. For any available Patch, open the Device dropdown.
  5. Choose Scan for NDI Sources.
  6. The Mevo camera should appear — select it.
  7. Click Done.

4. Add the camera feed as a cue

  1. In the main workspace, click the Camera icon to add a Camera cue.
  2. Rename it (e.g., NDI Camera) in the Basics tab.
  3. With the cue selected, open the I/O tab.
  4. Set:
    • Video Input → the NDI patch you configured
    • Video Output → the correct projector or TV display

Your NDI camera feed should now be visible and routed to the selected output.
